Understanding one’s sensory profile is often essential to improving self-regulation of emotions and energy levels. This includes identifying which types of sensory input you find calming/soothing, which types of sensory input you find energising, and which types you find dysregulating or stressful. The following link gives an overview of sensory processing differences in Autistic people: www.Autism.org.uk/advice-and- guidance/topics/sensory-differences/sensory-differences/all-audiences. An occupational therapist can also assist with further understanding sensory processing differences and developing strategies to cope better with sensory differences in everyday life.
The book ‘Unmasking Autism’ by Devon Price includes several activities for self-reflection and information about how to optimise one’s mental health and wellbeing as an Autistic person.
